Season: Autumn Weather: Gentle winds and rains
The blood red sky quickly faded to a dull grey-blue as the sun set over the serene island. Leaves dancing to the gentle beat of the wind are carried off into the nearby lake, where a black stallion picks and apple from a tree and gives it to an orphaned filly - her mother another victim of the recent drought. The herd is picking up where it left off, gathering the pieces of their shattered lives. During previous droughts, humans would supply fresh, ice cold water on a hot summer's day. The horses must now fend for themselves, passing on the tales of their ancestors to encourage future generations to go on. Horses have begun to lose faith in their ancestors' companions. Many horses have forgotten; some foals have never heard the stories. The herd is slowly growing apart - one side thinks the other should stop living in the past, they should move on with their lives; the other side says the tales of the humans give horses the inspiration to move on, whether or not they're coming back. As the horse herds are beginning to increase, the dog packs are decreasing due to starvation. It seems the cats, though rarely seen, are faring well in the harsh conditions.
